El Cerito Real estate

El Cerito is a city of 23,000 people that sits just north of Berkeley in Contra Costa county. Founded by refugees from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake the settled in what was then the Don Castro’s  ranch Rancho San Pablo. A post office was opened in 1909 and the refugee camp was known as Rust, after William Rust, the settlement’s first postmaster. Nor caring for the name Rust, the residents changed the name to El Cerito, which translates to ‘Little Hill’. El Cerito incorporated into a village in 1919.

The rolling hills of El Cerito provide spectacular views of the Golden Gate bridge for El Cerito real estate owners.  El Cerito is located along interstate 80 and 580. It borders Kensington to the south and the Richmond Annex the west. Wildcat Canyon Regional Park is located just east of El Cerito.  El Cerito has 2 BART stations and several bus line operated by AC Transit.

San Pablo Ave. runs the entire length of El Cerito and is best known for El Cerito Plaza which is a large mall with stores including Barnes and Noble, CVS Pharmacy, Petco  and El Cerito theatre featuring a full dinner menu and beer and wine.  The center is surrounded by other businesses, including hardware stores and fast food. El Cerito real estate offers cozy neighborhood that are ethnically diverse. El Cerito offers a moderate climate much like most of the bay area.
